I started by doing my own books. I then began working for friends, colleagues and took on some subcontracting work from accountants. Thus gaining a wide range of experience from a number of different clients, working in different trades and areas.
I even did my own accountant's personal books when she was too busy to attend to them herself.
Many of my clients have been from the music, arts and entertainment industries. I have specialist knowledge and experience of music business accounting.
I'm experienced with Excel, qualified with Sage One, and Xero Advisor Certified. I'm resourceful, highly organised with a natural sense of order. I'm qualified as a bookkeeper to the top level and with my years of experience, this makes me pretty handy to have as part of your team.

About
History
My name is Philip D. Wigg. Most people know me as "Wiggy". I have spent all of my working life as self-employed, mainly in the creative industries - principally in music, photography and video.
My introduction to bookkeeping started when I was in my first band. We received an estimated tax bill for £20,000. We hadn't kept or submitted any accounts (we didn’t know about any of this). Our income for the period was only a few hundred pounds, but it came down to me to prove that this estimate was pure fantasy. (An important early lesson!)
Since then I've always had bookkeeping as another string to my bow.
Over the past decade, I have relinquished my more creative endeavours and focused on bookkeeping.
Philosophy
"So, I get a guitar player as a bookkeeper. Great! How's that help me", I hear you chorus. Being a self-employed trader myself, I approach my bookkeeping from my client's point of view. I communicate with my clients in an "accounting jargon" free way. In other words - I speak your language.
I'm not going to confuse you with technical terms like "Trial Balance" and "Accrued Earnings". If you know what these things are you probably don't need me. If you're behind with your paperwork, can't stand doing it or haven't got the time - You probably do need me.
Information is Power
You are obliged by law to keep financial records for your business. You can also use this information to give you valuable feedback on your business. Information which can help to save you money, or make you more money.
I was part of a photography business that used a local courier firm to make multiple trips to and from the film processing lab. By keeping track of the money we'd spent, we realised that we could afford to employ a much needed graphic artist who also had his own motor bike instead.

I aim to make this process as painless for you as possible. By releasing you from dealing with the burden of bookkeeping, I can give you more time to concentrate on your business, or to have more time for yourself.
Ahead in the cloud
I use Xero exclusively. I find it is the best. It is the most innovative and flexible cloud based accounting software around. It has comprehensive reporting facilities and integrates with many useful third-party apps. As you grow, it grows with you.
If you are not in the cloud already, you will soon need to be. HMRC is going this way fast and we are all going to have to follow suit.
Basic Bookkeeping
I am the bridge between you and your accountant. They finalise your accounts, submit your tax returns and communicate with HMRC for you. They advise on tax matters and fulfil many other obligations.
I record and organise your financial transactions (with supporting documentation) in a way which enables them to do this efficiently.
Of course you could do this yourself, but there is the danger that if you don't know what you are doing you may create a mess which could cost you a small fortune for it to be sorted out.
I will find your deductible expenses. This will make your tax bill lower. I will also document all of the money that you receive to make sure that you’re not found guilty of non-declaring any income. This will help you sleep better at night.

How long is your piece of string?
I offer different packages, tailored to fit the current size and requirements of your business. A short informal conversation or email exchange would give me sufficient information I will need to put these figures together for you.
Fees are paid monthly by direct debit via GoCardless. These fees will include your Xero cloud software subscription.
One-off initial setup charges may apply.
